Hysterectomy Association Newsletter – April 2015

Phew! Welcome the Hysterectomy Association April newsletter. We’ve had a busy few months here at HA HQ. Finally, our brand new website has gone live AND we’ve moved home to a much faster server. All in all, it’s been a bit hectic; but things are starting to calm down and get back to normal again. Over the coming months we’ll be doing a makeover on the shop and forums too; as well as getting more of our information into a place people can actually find it. The Countdown Clock is Ticking for Hysteria 2014

The clock’s ticking away and the August 31st writing competition deadline for Hysteria 2014 is approaching fast. If you’ve already got something down on paper now is the time to start editing. Hemingway said write drunk and edit sober. In other words, after the passion and fire that comes with creativity you have to look at your work with a cool, dispassionate eyes – almost as if someone else had written it. 5 Top Flash Fiction Tips for Writers – Hysteria Writing Competition

Flash Fiction goes by many names: micro fiction, sudden fiction, short short stories, skinny stories (no fat allowed) and postcard fiction. I gather in China it translates to a palm-sized smoke because it should only last as long as a cigarette (thanks Wikipedia). There’s no easy way to describe what it is, but I think the organisers of the annual Bridport Prize have come up with a useful working definition. The Bridport, by the way, has just closed its doors for 2014: next year’s international competition opens again in late November.
