10 weeks on………life without a uterus! – Susannah’s story

So where to start?

Perhaps the fact that this is the first time I’ve managed to sit down and write something and usually I love writing, is an illustration in itself of how the last 10 weeks have been. An ‘uphill with lead boots on’ type of monumental struggle. A physical, emotional and psychological adventure playground of highs and lows. Feeling like a women’s health circus act – Elley’s story

For all my menstruating years I have had problems. In my teens I just put it down to hormones and hoped it would settle. In my twenties I tried the pill, it controlled the bleeding cycle but did not control the moods and the flow. In my thirties was when I decided I had had enough and wanted some specialist support. I have struggled with Adenomnyosis and Endometriosis (hope those spellings are right) for a very long time. Heavy bleeding, flooding, discomfort, lots of pain and a massive belly for so long. Part of the reason for bearing with the pain all this long was the hope that I would conceive. I have tried everything from tablets, Mirena coil, I was aware of the hysterectomy option but I had been so scared to make that decision. Continue reading Still Waiting for My Op – Anna’s Story

Total hysterectomy age 40 – Lynn’s Story

Since I started my periods at age 13 I suffered from painful periods. The pain got gradually worse over the years. I tried every possible type of contraceptive to help with the pain including Depo-Provera injections and the Mirena Coil but nothing helped much. I had numerous scans and laparoscopies but other than a few lesions and small spots of endometriosis there was nothing to explain the pain I was in. A weight lifted – Sarah’s Hysterectomy Story

I’ve always had heavy irregular periods and we’re told I should probably consider having children sooner rather than later. I got married at 23 and started trying for a family straight away. I had five miscarriages, numerous tests and had diagnosis ranging from endometriosis – lupus – polycystic ovaries. All of which I felt were guesswork as despite having tests I always felt like I was never really taken seriously. Continue reading A weight lifted – Sarah’s Hysterectomy Story
