My periods were always heavy and extremely painful, even from the onset of puberty. When I became a teenager I went on the pill to help with pain etc, this was ok for a while but then by the age of 21 I wanted children. So I came off the pill and had three children in just under 6 years!
Hello everyone! I’m Jane and I had a subtotal hysterectomy 12 days ago now, on 18th December 2013. I kept my ovaries. I’m 45 years old and had had fibroid issues for six years. These started off as just being irregular periods but in the last 2 years had escalated to a combination of hormone imbalance and fibroids leaving me feeling out of sorts more often than I was feeling normal, long stretches of being savagely pre-menstrual and never knowing when my (heavy and leak / flooding-laden) period was going to arrive or how long it would last.
At the age of 25 I had to make probably the biggest decision of my life. I started my period when I was 10, and right from the very beginning they were a nightmare, I was off school every time it came because they were so heavy they used to come through onto the seats. I was also in so much pain, I remember my mum took me to the doctors and they said there was nothing they could do for me as I was so young.
I found your website while researching my options a month ago and it certainly helped with my decision to have a hysterectomy. I had a failed ablation last November when my womb was perforated. Wish I’d had a plan B at the time and they’d done a hysterectomy there and then.
