Product Description

Perhaps you’ve had or are thinking about having a hysterectomy.

Maybe you know someone who is having a hysterectomy.

In either situation the most common reaction is to feel isolated and fearful about what you don’t know. The Hysterectomy Association believes having enough good quality, impartial information is the key to navigating this change successfully, we also know that other people’s stories are incredibly powerful too.

This book of real-life stories has been drawn together from many that have been shared with us over the years. They show that whilst every experience of hysterectomy is unique there are common threads and themes running through them. Other people’s stories help women feel less isolated. They show that they aren’t going mad, missing the point or stupid. They show their concerns are genuine and that the only way to deal with them is to voice them.

These stories are a mixed bag telling of loss, happiness, joy and pain and they talk of a need to share with others before moving on.

I have just finished reading “In my own Words ” and I couldnt put it down. It is so interesting and incredible how everyone’s story is different with the variation in emotion for me as the reader moving from being saddened, to being amazed and even being inspired. I felt privileged to read such personal accounts. There is lots of advice for ladies considering, going through and recovering from an operation.

My hysterectomy was a huge milestone in my life after many many years of suffering heavy periods and constipation. With doctors saying I had bowel problems, followed by “its just what happens to women”. I could not have coped without Linda’s website (www.hysterectomy-association.org.uk), and her 101 hints book. I recommend them both to ladies I know who are having their operation. I will now be recommending this book too. Having a hysterectomy is an incredibly personal experience and one that needs to be taken seriously and prepared for. Linda was a huge support to me and to so many others. Thank you so much.

Superb book – fascinating read. Well done Linda and all the ladies that contributed their stories!
