A Laparoscopic Total Hysterectomy is similar to a Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy in that most of the work is done via three cuts in the abdomen, however it differs because it involves removing the cervix as well. It could also be similar to a vaginal hysterectomy in that if the womb is not too large then it can be removed vaginally. The top of vagina will be stitched closed and the top, of the vagina, is then supported by tying the uterosacral ligaments to the top as well. All stitching is performed via the laparascopic instruments.

Im 39 years of age and due to go in for a hysterectomy 1st may ,im in a bit of a state and feeling abit alone ,this site as really help me thankyou so much ,Lorraine
Hi Lorraine, I had my hysterectomy done 6 weeks ago now. I had a Laparascopic Total Hysterectomy .
The op went well . The recovery has been slower than I expected though. I think the way the keyhole op was describe and being told I would only stay in overnight made my brain ‘belittle’ the op. I thought I would be bouncing around after a couple of weeks. I am not the most patient patient and find the aches and tirdness frustrating.
Having said that in the long run I will recover well. I have had no bleeding as some suggest and my tiny scars (three) have healed well.
As long as you set yourself realistic targets you will be fine.
Wishing you well for the 1st May.
Good luck for the 1st May Lorraine. I had my hysterectomy 4 weeks ago now and am feeling great. I was so scared beforehand as I was diagnosed with cancer and was worried about the pain I would be in afterwards. Well, it was fine, no pain, not even a paracetamol was needed. Up and showered the next day and home on the following morning! I couldn’t believe it. I do still get bit tired and am careful what I lift but am pretty much back to normal. The best news is the lab results showed all the cancer has gone and I am clear. All thanks to the wonderful surgeons and nurses who were so kind at Brighton County Hospital. They saved my life, and at 71 I am so very grateful. All the best to you Lorraine, I hope you have a good experience like me.
