I was wondering how do you know when your going into menopause if you have had a hysterectomy?Our Answer: There are two alternative scenarios, the first is that you will go into the menopause a year or two earlier than you might have done if it had been natural (ask your mother when she started hers if you can as this is a good indicator for when you might have started). However, around 50% of women who have a hysterectomy that leaves their ovaries intact will go through the menopause within five years regardless of their age. You can get a blood oestrogen test which will give you an indication if you are menopausal although you do need to bear in mind that these tests aren’t hugely accurate. It can be helpful to have a blood oestrogen test before a hysterectomy as this will give a base line reference for later.
