Researchers conducting a long term study at the University of Pittsburgh have said that women who experience weight loss during the menopause appear to be at a greater risk of bone loss at the hip.  They also say that women who are using HRT also seem to run some sort of risk as well - albeit not as strong and that the rate of bone loss was much slower if they also lost weight.

However, the researchers were keen to point out that this should not discourage women from aiming to lose weight if they need to for other health reasons.
