Heavy bleeding is one of the main reasons for women to undergo hysterectomy.  The Drug and Therapies bulletin have compared hysterectomy against endometrial destruction (by a variety of means) in the treatment of heavy bleeding. They found that despite the fact that additional surgery was required in more than 38% of cases, the use of endometrial destruction had a very similar outcome in terms of patient satisfaction as hysterectomy.
