I had this procedure perfomed on 30th April 2008, I am now 4 days post op and feeling fantastic. This is the culmination of 18 months of pelvic, lumbar and hip pain and after 3 other laparoscopic procedures to try and alleviate the pain.
Last Oct I had an extensive endometrial resection because of severe endometriosis, initially my symptoms improved but deteriorated when I began menstrating again following surgery.
It was a long and difficult to decision to take but already my pain has improved considerably, I chose to have my remaining ovary removed at the same time as these had been the start of the problem when it was discovered I had a large right ovarian cyst.
I cannot believe how much better I already feel, at the time of surgery I also had a HRT implant which will need replacing in a years time. I am still tired following surgery and taking it easy but early indications are good.
I will keep you all posted :D :D

Hi Jo
My surgeon is going to try to do it lap, but I had a tcre in january that went horribly wrong. They couldnt do it because my cervix was scarred and peforated my bladder instead. He is trying lap to get a clear view of damaged bladder but reckons it is more likely to be abdominally
So I really don't know until I am in theatre.
But having total inc cervix and ovaries anyway.
It's the not quite knowing and the I hope it doesn't go wrong again thats the worry

eeks
But you sound as though this is great for you.

hugs

Hi Catchpoj

I'm also having this procedure done in July, I have a large fibroid about the size of a melon. I was keen that they should leave my ovaries in and as there are no other problem I hope they can stay.

My problems have been ongoing for about 4 years despite my constant trips to the GP and getting the usual brush off. Finally got a scan in February where the fibroid was found although I had been telling my gp I could feel a huge lump. He said it was constipation and IBS !!

Good to know you have done so well after this. Keep me posted as to your ongoing recovery, and any tips for me too.

Kind regards

Kim

Hi Kim

I hope everything goes ok in July.

It defies belief in this day and age they are still doing open hysterectomies! I am still feeling good and the pain that I have suffered constantly with for the last 3 years is virtually non existent, the amount of pain killers I am taking are greatly decreased and I have even discovered I have a sex drive!

I am still tired and taking things easy but despite that I feel quite energised!

best of luck

Jo

Hi Jo

I bet you feel like a new woman ! Pain free is a wonderful thing, although I don't really experience much pain, its the other symptoms that are troublesome...constant bleeding, and I cannot control my bladder very well as the fibroid is so large its pressing on it.

I remember when my mum had a hyst about 35 years ago after an ectopic pregancy that ruptured...now a tah wouldn't be appropriate at all...and it was a very long recovery for her.

I hope i'm up and about and running around like I normally do as quickly as possible.

Did you have any visible scarring ?

I had keyhole surgery for impingement in my shoulder back last year and one of the small scars became infected so it didnt heal at all well. Luckily its not huge but im still aware of it.

Hiya Kim

I have 4 small cuts which over time wil fade to nothing one of them is in the belly button but you can't see that one.

Still a bit sore but nothing compared to the hip and back pain, my perods were always heavy, but for me that was normal!

Plus what a good time to pick off sick the weather is glorious!

take care

Jo

Hi Jo

That sounds really encouraging, and I know that there are some great creams and oils on the market designed to help reduce the appearance of scar tissue. I should have used it on my shoulder !

I couldn't have picked a better time to have the op, or rather it was picked for me....and as I have a 10 year old that would normally require some child care over the summer holidays, its worked out well as I will now be at home on sick leave.

Its a nightmare trying to spread 6 weeks holiday over the 12 weeks that the kids have off over the year. My elder kids used to help out but now they have flown the nest its far more difficult, and I'm lucky in that i do get generous holiday entitlement.

Hope you continue with your recovery and enjoy the beautiful weather.

Kim

Hi

I had my surgery on april 3 and I feel great. I had a supracervical hysterectomy. I had sever endometriosis and I had a fibroid and ovarian cyst. I had chronic pain for years. I went to see a gynecologist and he told me I to have surgery. I felt great right after I had my operation and was back to normal after a week. I was alittle tired but was able to get back into my regualr routine. The only issue I have now is that I have pain when i empty my bladder it only hurts when i am at the end of urinating. This isn't a burning pain but a sharp pressure pain inside. I had a test done for infection and it came up negative. I am going to see my Dr next week. I hope it is just pain from healing.

Hi Lynn - I had this kind of pain too - just at the end of urinating. It went on its own after about 6 weeks. They tested me for an infection as well but it was fine.

cushio - yes. Sneezing, laughing, coughing all require a cushion!
I didn't need big pants - only 3 little wounds one in belly button and two just below bikini line so just wore normal pants.

I had just over four weeks off work but was able just to sit at my desk when I went back. If you are in a more physical job you will need longer off but probably not as long as TAH girls. Every one is different.

Hi Everyone

I am new to this site and I have found some comments quite helpful :)

I am scheduled to have a laparascopic subtotal hysterectomy and have a tvt 30th July. Im quite anxious about the recovery time and the op as I have 3 young kids -11,5 and 1. My hubby is planning to take a week off work to help me but not sure what I will be able to do when he returns, ie picking up baby.

Any advise would be very appreciated

Suzanne
